Fleet Maintenance Specialist
Based in the Support Center the incumbent is responsible for supporting Canway’s corporate branch in controlling their fleet maintenance expenses while ensuring maximum up time of the fleet.
This will be accomplished through:
Ongoing training of branch/regional/corporate operating personnel in fleet management practices
Ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures regarding circle checks & preventive maintenance inspections
Managing vendor relations
Expediting repairs
Optimizing warranty recovery
Confirming reasonableness of time and materials charges on major component repairs & replacements
The Fleet Maintenance Specialist will work collaboratively with the Corporate Fleet Manager and our third party vendors to ensure that decisions made regarding repairs, refurbishment and or replacement of the fleet are the most cost effective solutions to ensure the longevity of the truck fleet.
Specific Duties
Support the administration of the third party truck maintenance program
Manage the external warranty process through the third party vendors
Manage the maintenance help desk
Support the branches with vendor management at the local level
Administer TRS including new vehicle input, vehicle transfers, etc.
Produce and analyze reports from TRS
Monitor open repair tickets, investigate and resolve on a timely basis
Monitor and investigate vehicle down time
Support the vendor invoice review process
Support the fleet maintenance budgeting process
Support the truck registration and reporting process including titling, registrations, special permitting and fuel tax reporting
Support the maintenance department training initiatives
Special projects as required.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years experience in medium & heavy truck (Class G, D & Z) maintenance as licensed mechanic, lead hand or service advisor
Experience in dealing with dealers, manufacturers (OEMs) and third party repair shops on costs and warranty recovery & policy adjustments
Experience managing a geographically dispersed truck fleet
Skills and Knowledge
Knowledge of medium & heavy truck warranty process
Knowledge of truck repair maintenance standards, including standard repair times and parts costs
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Understanding of financial statements (profit & loss, general ledger)
Education
Licensed truck and coach technician preferred

Employee Relations

Staffing
Works directly with management to determine staffing needs. Leads managers/supervisors through verification of accurate job descriptions and requisition approval process through our online system (HR Smart). Role partners with Compensation on verifying accurate market data to recruit and retain key talent.
Succession Planning
Responsible for conducting mid-year organizational development review (ODR) sessions. Position will work closely with managers/supervisors to develop and implement developmental plans for key associates.
Talent Management
Supports our talent management system (TMS) by training managers and new associates quarterly. Helps drive our focal review process through communication and coaching to both managers and employees of our unique online system. Communications help drive associates to set consistent goals and objectives with quarterly fast feedback and annual review process.
Other
Responsible for training corporate initiatives such as annual orientation, system upgrades, TMS etc. to employees and managers. Qualifications:
